  1. contractors pay into workers compensation so if a accident happens no one gets sued ,and accidents do happen all the time if you never did roofing before ,iv seen a guy get hit by lightning ,iv seen a guy doing his own roof fall and die ,iv seen a kid fall completly though a roof so ya it does happen ,you can do your own roof cheap ,but remember if some thing did happen whos's taking care of you over saving a few bucks ,get recamendations ,pictures ,video of what a contractor does then decide ,thats my oppinion

  2. To any roofers: What would you do if a homeowner called you and said you reroofed 20% of the wrong house ? and now the homeowner has two color shingles.

and what if the shingles you took off were white from age, so now you you have 80% white old shingles, and 20% your new brown shingles .

how would you fix your mistake ?

  3. Good video. I would like to comment on the ventilation portion of your video. What you said is true, that a roof won't last very long if it is not properly ventilated. However, more ventilation is not better. In ventilation, you should have it divided into 50% intake and 50% exhaust. Gable louver vents, whirly birds, power fans, and ridge vents are all exhaust. No need to have more than one kind of exhaust, BUT you must have the proper amount of intake venting to help with the flow pressure. So, make sure that 50% of your venting is soffit vents, fascia vents, etc. Use a roof ventilation calculator, and it will take care of itself by explaining exactly how many of each type of vent you would need to vent the attic.

  4. got hip roof 20 ft long by 13 ft to peek just to take care 1 area .  fig 8 bundles .  How many shingles come in a bundle ?   2 side going up 84 caps .  How many bundles you fig make caps up ?   then can times that by 3 do other sides .   House only 20 by 20 .  going to do 1 side at time .   Thanks for info .

  5. How much profit should I go for? Obviously I'd estimate how many hours the roof would take before negotiating a price, but is there a certain % range for profit based on how much money was spent on materials? Thanks for the vid.

  6. Great advice. Just had a couple leaks into my house after a rain storm..Time for a new roof… lol. This will help me figure out the cost of materials and go from there.  Thanks.  Cheers.

  7. Chris, super vid, well put together. Reason I'm on your vid is because there is a re-shingle home job in my future and the last time I did my roof was 15 yrs (three near hurricane winds) ago.
Question; Each 30" shingle, is the clear two inch wide celaphane strip supposed to be removed from the shingle's under side?   I removed them on the last diy job here thinking tar stuff stickum-better against mating run and it only prevents sticking while in the packed bundle and watched Tom on 'this old house' reShingle vid #4 and I don't recall him mentioning the clear strips removal.    Thks for the vid.    I've used 24" flashing for my valleys.

  8. Couldn't find "roofrepairzone" web site… what do you think of doing the main home in shingles and the attached flat top garage as a tar roof? Your video was extremely helpful!

  9. Thanks for your comment. If you watch the video I explain that 2500 square feet is just a number I came up with. The point is to teach you have to estimate the roof yourself. I just said lets say the roof is 2,500 square feet for the sake of example. 2,500 sq ft is 25 square which is equal to about 75 bundles I added 5 bundles for waste equalling 80 bundles.
